Originally intended as a Planned Master Community, the city of Weston is located in the South-west area of Broward County and is known for it's beautiful neighborhoods and it's lavish landscape. Weston is a culturally and commercially diverse city that is loved by it's residents.

History

As a city, Weston is not very old. The 15,000 acres of land that the city sits on was amassed in 1950. For years, Weston and his company, ARVIDA, discussed, revised and refined plans for the new city. In 1978, the first development plans were approved and the first homes were completed in 1984.

There were more than 5,000 residents in 1991, and Weston has continued to develop substantially since then., both in land and population. Today, Weston covers over 16,000 acres of land, and the population of the city has grown to more than 65,000 residents.

Despite its high population, Weston is a city that is attractive to families. The culturally-diverse population, the amazing educational opportunities, and the outstanding parks and recreational facilities are all a part of the reason why thousands of families call this area home.

One of the best things about the city for families is the fact that it is bicycle friendly. Thousands of people choose to commute from work or school on their bikes. Weston is serviced by Broward County Schools, each with an “A” rating. If you are sending your children to school here, you have a choice of more than five elementary schools, three middle schools, two high schools, and four non-public schools. One of the high schools, Cypress Bay High School, has been ranked among the 20 best in the state by “U.S. News & World Report” and given a national rank of 206.

If you are a nature lover, you are going to adore Weston. The city has 14 parks within its borders, all offering similar amenities. You will find sports leagues, shaded playgrounds, exercise areas, running tracks, paved walking paths, and more. Do not forget your canine companion when you leave home. Leashed dogs are welcome in all of the city’s parks except Vista Park, Town Center Park and Weston Regional Park.

There is almost always some form of entertainment happening in at least one of the city’s parks. You can listen to a concert, watch a movie, take in a magic show, or even participate in a festival. If you want to get some fresh air and entertainment at the same time, there is nothing stopping you in this beautiful city.
