History

Although this area in Broward County has a rich history, it was not until 1941 that the city was first developed. Everglades Plantation Company was formed after Frederick C. Peters purchased 10,000 acres of land and began to develop the property. The first homes were completed in 1947. In that same year, two different hurricanes flooded the land. The city rebounded and there were 200 residents by 1950.

In 1953, Plantation was officially incorporated as a city. Schools began to be built, more houses cropped up, and the population began to grow. Today, the city is considered a part of the metropolitan area containing Miami, Fort Lauderdale and Pompano Beach. Together, these cities are home to millions of people.
