The Boca Raton Public Library has a collection of more than 133,000 books; almost 850 CD-ROMS, 450-500 current periodicals, pamphlets, clippings; 3,600 audio cassettes and books on tape, 8,600 CDs, microfilm of various newspapers and periodicals; and 14,200 videocassettes. Services include special sections for adults, young adults and children; largeprint; storytime programs; interlibrary loan; and a TDD unit for speech or hearing impaired people. Special programs are offered for children and young adults. Adult and child computer learning labs are provided for library users. Copy machines and microfilm reader printers are also available. The Library offers a full-scale reference service, which answers more than 190,000 questions annually. There is an active literacy volunteer program, a Friends of the Library group and a recently developed Library Foundation.
Hours: 9:00 a.m.-9:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 9:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and noon-8:00 p.m. on Sunday. Free library card with proof of residency or ownership of city real estate. Outside city limits, a one-year library card costs $35.

The South County Regional Library of the Palm Beach County Library System is visible from Glades Road, a half-mile west of Lyons Road. This facility opened in the fall of 1991, and serves the unincorporated areas of Boca Raton and Palm Beach County.
This branch offers 155,046 volumes and access to more than 1,052,251 through the PBC system, reference, children's story hours and special programs, books on tape, videos, CDs, magazines and large-print materials. There are also quiet study rooms and a young adult room.
Hours of operation are 10:00 a.m.-9:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 12:00-5:00 p.m. on Sunday. Residents outside the PBC library taxing district pay $15 for a six-month card and $30 annually. Those who live in the district simply need proof of residency.

Supported through donations to the Boca Raton Community Hospital Foundation, the hospital's staff of highly skilled, experienced professionals and physicians, complemented by 15,000 volunteers, works to provide top quality, service-oriented medical care. Fully accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organizations, Boca Raton Community Hospital is the largest hospital in southern Palm Beach County, with 394 beds. Its many special services and programs include the Lynn Regional Cancer Center, One Family Place Maternity and Pediatrics, cardiac and MRI services , the Center for Breast Care/Women's Center.
The SurgiCenter Plus outpatient surgical facility, the Care Center (which is part of its Emergency Center), the Toppel Center for Pediatric Care, the Davis Therapy Centers with rehabilitative services, wound care, pain management, and medical equipment supplies.

New services include the Dodson Family Foundation Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitative Services, a neuroscience center, the Eugene M. and Christine E. Lynn Clinical Research Center, and the John W. Henry Center for Integrated Care.

Since opening in 1982, Delray Medical Center has become a major provider of specialized cardiac services including open heart surgery while also providing a broad range of medical, surgical and 24-hour emergency/ trauma services for the community. Since May of 1991, more than 7,000 patients have been treated here as south Palm Beach County's state-designated level II trauma center. Delray Medical Center, accredited with commendation twice in succession by the JCAHO and distinguished as one of the 100 top orthopedic hospitals in the country by HCI, is a 343-bed, acute-care facility with more than 500 physicians on staff. North Broward Medical Center is a comprehensive, 409-bed healthcare facility conveniently located at Interstate 95 and Sample Road in Broward County. More than 650 physicians and 1,500 employees contribute to the high quality of patient care provided at the tax-assisted medical center.
Designated as an Adult Level II Trauma Center, the Emergency Department is open around the clock to serve residents of Broward and nearby southern Palm Beach County. In addition to treating everything from minor ills to major injuries, the department is now a designated Chest Pain Center where rapid assessment of chest pain is focused on saving lives and reducing damage to the heart. More than 50,000 people are treated in the ED each year and they receive approximately 650 trauma patients annually.
North Broward Medical Center plays an active role in the community, participating in an assortment of programs. NBMC volunteers work with students through Broward County's Partners in Education program. The Senior Research Center, classrooms and 250-seat conference center house monthly lectures, meetings, support groups and screenings.

In central Broward County, North Ridge Medical Center is a 391-bed facility and is the largest open heart surgery provider in both Broward and Palm Beach counties. North Ridge is recognized for its extensive cardiac and neuroscience services at the North Ridge Cardiac and Vascular Institute and the North Ridge NeuroScience Center. Other hospital specialties include the Orthopedic and Joint Replacement Center, Maternity Center, Breast Center, Transitional Rehabilitation Unit and the North Ridge Outpatient Center. This is the only sleep disorder center in Palm Beach and Broward counties accredited by the American Sleep Disorders Association. The Boca Raton Sleep Disorder Center provides non-invasive overnight sleep monitoring in a home-like setting. Medical Director Natalio J. Chediak M.D. is board certified in neurology and sleep medicine. Evaluation of all sleep disorders is provided, including insomnia, snoring, sleep apnea and daytime sleepiness. Community Blood Centers of South Florida, a nonprofit agency, operates three division. Palm Beach Community Blood Center in Boca Raton provides 100,000 pints of blood annually to 18 South Florida hospitals and many dialysis and home health care centers. This private, not-for-profit agency was founded in 1978 to serve adults with physical and mental disabilities in Palm Beach and Broward counties. It offers a broad spectrum of comprehensive educational and vocational training, therapeutic and support services. In addition, the facility provides Social Security and Medicare counseling, support for the visually impaired, sign language, exercise for the physically impaired and a senior sharing support group. Hospice by the Sea has provided a special kind of caring for almost two decades to those whom cure is no longer possible. An interdisciplinary team of nurses, social workers, clergy, therapists and specially trained volunteers work with patients' physicians to develop a plan of care. The team controls symptoms of illness and supports emotional well-being. The center's goal is to help its patients stay at home, but the staff also works with the patient and family in its 32-bed private care center, at nursing homes and in adult congregate living facilities. Admission is based on need only; the facility receives reimbursement from Medicare, Medicaid, insurance, grants and donations. On-call emergency care is available 24 hours a day.
